THE REALITY is, printers fail due to worn parts, i.e. worn or broken gears, worn tread on feed rollers, or fusing assemblies with worn lamination. All the cleaning in the world won't put tread back on feed rolls or plastic back on gears.
THE IDEA is used by companies to create a costly annual "Service Plan" to clean your printers twice a year. Then when your printer breaks during that period, they perform the service at a discounted labor rate. The discounted labor rate is quickly offset by inflated part pricing that you have no choice but to pay.
THE TEST is to look at 10 of your last repair invoices, if their theory is correct, then 9 out of 10 service calls should have needed cleanings only. We would bet that at least 9 out of 10 service calls required parts to complete the repairs. Let's go one step further, why not clean them 3 times a year and prevent over 100% of printer problems?
THE CONCLUSION is that purchasing a commercial quality business machine from HP's LaserJet series of printers eliminates the need for constant maintenance and cleanings. This luxury is built into the purchase price like any other commercial piece of equipment. Maintenance is based on page count, NOT an arbitrary number like 6 months.
